I've always been fascinated by lyrics so perhaps this will become a running post. Certain lyrics just deserve a moment or two of our time. Like the following gems from "To Be With You" by Mr. Big...
I seen it all go down
Your game of love was all rained out
Um, OK. First of all, that doesn't rhyme. And it's not like "down" or "out" is hard to rhyme. But it does equate heartbreak and/or lost love to a rained out baseball game. Which I enjoy. I also like the fact that the "author" probably thought that was clever. (It's not)
On to the chorus...
I'm the one who wants to be with you
Deep inside I hope you feel it too
Waited on a line of greens and blues
Just to be the next to be with you
"Waited on a line of greens and blues." OK. Stop right there. What in blue hell does that mean? Do you know what it means? I certainly don't. But there it is. People (mostly drunk) sing that song with gusto and belt that line right out with no questions asked. I demand an explanation.

here is something i found:
"The phrase also occurs elsewhere, eg in a Cyndi Lauper song 'Good Enough', there is a line "here we are hanging on strands of greens and blues."
I couldn't find an explanation anywhere, although there is one suggestion that 'green means envy and blue means sadness'. My feeling is that it might be a reference to drugs, since I believe pills are often referred to by their colour."
OK. I like it. Now we're getting somewhere.
While I like Jon's researching ability.. it still doesn't make sense. If it means envy and sadness.. what the hell does that have to do with waiting in a line. Who's waits in lines of sadness and envy? Is there such a line? I imagine that it would be more of a cluster. Either way, what is at the end of that line? Is he at the pharmacy, and waiting for his supply of Xanex?
And if he is implying drugs, he should be "Waiting on line for greens and blues". Unless someone just spilt a bunch of pills and he is standing on them.. in which case he should stop writing the lyrics and let someone know there are prescription drugs all over their floor.
Are progressing? Yes.. but nowhere near the finish line
Do you think it could have something to do with Master Big's perm? I do.
